What does a pineapple have to do with the sea? As any child growing up in the early aughts will tell you, “That’s not how it goes… it’s who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Sponge Bob Square pants! My newest collection for Green Goat Ranch. It was one of the only shows I remember on Nickelodeon that my whole family liked: My Mom, younger brother, sister, and I. We all watched it together, laughing at what kind of hijinks Spongebob would get into with his friends, Patrick Star, Sandy Cheeks, Boss Mr Krabbs, and Neighbor Squidward. It gave us something to have in common and talk about, And they are also celebrating their 25th anniversary. So let us look at these beloved characters in plying pair form.
The Sponge, The Myth, The Legend! Let's start with the one and only Sponge Bob Square Pants. He lives in a pineapple under the sea with his pet Gary, goes jellyfishing, and works at the Krusty Krab. Sponge Bob's recognizable yellow and brown character design is the focus of this plying pair. We put together a striking yellow that mirrors his sponginess and a beautiful mix of brown, Caramel, and white to mimic his daily uniform.
Sponge Bob's right-hand man and best friend, Patrick Star, is the next character we chose to immortalize in fiber. Patrick is the comic relief and the best partner on crazy adventures. We pulled pink and green from his character design to create this eye-catching plying pair. The first braid we chose is a beautiful pink that fades into the natural fleece. The coordinating fleece is an eye-popping yellow-green with a Kelly green.
Next is Sponge Bob's Neighbor and coworker, Squidward Tentacles. The grumpy squid that takes orders at the Krusty Krab and plays the clarinet on his time off. For Squidward's plying pair, we wanted something that would work together as smoothly as he plays his clarinet. We went with a braid that has blues, purples, and browns. We paired it with a cool-toned brown.
My favorite character, Sandy Cheeks, is up next! A Squirrel who went to space needed more adventure and moved to Bikini bottom. I also loved that she lived in her little patch of grass in a bubble house that pumps oxygen. Our inspiration for our plying pair is her iconic spacesuit with the flower on the helmet. We wanted something to call back to the flower and chose a soft purple with white to mimic the suit. The coordinating braid is a brown gradient.
SpongeBob wouldn't be SpongeBob without his employment at the Krusty Krab and his time working with Mr Krab. He is the Boss who serves Krabby patties and loves his daughter Pearl. We naturally had to add him to our plying pair collection. Mr. Krab's color palette is very bold and eye-catching. We chose a bright, saturated red and paired it with a beautiful blue.
Me Hoy Minoy! Our next Plying Pair is a fan favorite, Doodle Bob! Coming from a Magic pencil and worming his way into our hearts, he is a character we didn't want to miss. Choosing the plying pair was fun because keeping the essence of his drawing style was our priority, but we also wanted to add texture to this combination. To bring this magical drawing to life, we choose a heathered grey to reflect the inside of the drawing. Mimicking the lines of the Doodle Bob cartoon, we selected a lighter grey braid with black streaks to round out this collection.
The best thing about this collection is our Mystery Batt. What is the one thing we, as Spongebob fans, would love to have? A Krabby Patty!
