Planting Ideas & Harvesting Inspiration

Planting Ideas & Harvesting Inspiration

People sometimes ask me where my ideas come from.

The short answer?

Everywhere.

A movie I've watched a dozen times. A walk through the woods. A video game that stays with me long after I've finished it. A quiet morning with the goats. Music. A conversation. The texture of tree bark. The way the light catches a field just before sunset.

I love stories.

And I think stories have a way of growing.

Some ideas arrive fully formed. I came home from a trip to Disney, sat down at my worktable, and almost immediately started creating what became my Flower & Garden collection.

Others take their time.

I knew Stardew Valley belonged at Green Goat Ranch years before I ever dyed the first fiber for it. The idea stayed with me, quietly growing in the background, connecting itself to other ideas until one day I realized it was finally ready.

That's why I say I'm always planting ideas and harvesting inspiration.

Ideas are seeds.

Some sprout right away.

Some need a season.

Others need years.

Farming has taught me that.

Working with fiber means learning to appreciate the rhythm of the seasons. Sometimes everything comes together beautifully. Sometimes the animals have other plans. Sometimes a fleece isn't what I expected. Most days are somewhere in between.

Creativity feels the same way.

It grows.

It changes.

It surprises me.

Green Goat Ranch started because I wanted to explore creativity through fiber while staying connected to the animals, the land, and the changing seasons.

That hasn't changed.

What has changed is my understanding of what I really make.

I don't think I make fiber.

I think I make invitations.

An invitation to try something new.

To notice texture.

To fall in love with a breed you've never spun before.

To pick up a handful of wool and wonder what it might become.

I hope my fiber never feels like a set of instructions.

I hope it feels like the beginning of a conversation.

One of my favorite moments is when someone comes back to my booth carrying something they've made. Almost every time, it looks completely different from what I imagined when I dyed the fiber.

I love that.

Because the goal was never for you to make what I would make.

The goal was for you to make what you would make.

Your creativity doesn't have to look like mine.

In fact, I hope it doesn't.

That's where the magic happens.

Success, to me, isn't measured by how many braids of fiber I sell or how many collections I release.

Success is joy.

My joy in creating.

Your joy in creating.

The moment an idea becomes something you can hold in your hands.

Green Goat Ranch is always evolving because I am always evolving. Every new breed I discover, every hike I take, every story I fall in love with, and every season on the farm plants another seed.

Some will grow into collections.

Some will become blog posts.

Some may never become anything at all.

And that's okay.

Not every seed grows into the same flower.

I hope Green Goat Ranch always feels like a creative garden.

A place where ideas are planted, inspiration is shared, and everyone is welcome to grow something of their own.

I'm just the gardener who happens to love wool.

The rest of the story belongs to you.
