Evergreen Wilds

Long before Green Goat Ranch, before I ever owned a spinning wheel, and definitely before I had goats of my own, there was an alpaca farm in the Pacific Northwest.

Evergreen Alpacas belonged to the parents of a friend, and it was the place that introduced me to the world of fiber. I learned about felting, creating, and the incredible connection between animals and the things we make with their fiber.

I came home convinced I was going to raise alpacas.

Life had other plans.

Instead, I ended up with Angora goats, and I honestly can't imagine it any other way.

Even though my farm looks a little different than I first imagined, that visit never really left me.

When I think about the Pacific Northwest, I don't just think about the trees. I think about the feeling.

The trails lined with thick moss.

Towering evergreens that seem to disappear into the clouds.

The quiet after a rainfall.

The kind of woods that make you wonder what might be just around the next bend.

That's where Evergreen Wilds began.

Not with a color palette.

Not with a product.

With a place.

When I started building the collection, I wanted each colorway to feel like a different corner of that forest. Not a photograph of it, but the feeling of walking through it. The names came naturally after that, inspired by moss, mist, fungi, brambles, and all the little details that make those forests feel so alive.

Fae Fluff felt like the perfect home for this collection because it's one of the most open-ended products I make.

I love spinning directly from the fluffy cloud, watching the different fibers drift together into yarn. But that's only one possibility.

You can card it into batts.

Blend it with other fibers.

Felt with it.

Or turn it into something I never would have imagined.

There isn't a wrong way to use Fae Fluff.

That's exactly why I love it.

I also know that texture is a personal thing.

Some makers love a smooth, consistent spin. Others are happiest when silk neps, locks, and textured fibers surprise them every few inches. Most of us fall somewhere in between.

That's why Evergreen Wilds comes in three texture levels: Soft, Textured, and Wild.

None is better than another.

They're simply different ways to experience the same walk through the woods.

If you've followed Green Goat Ranch for a while, you know I have a soft spot for different breeds of wool. I love discovering what makes each one unique. Some are soft and springy. Others are long, shiny, or full of character.

Fae Fluff lets those breeds keep a little of their personality.

Instead of blending everything until it's perfectly uniform, I get to celebrate what makes each fiber special. Together they create something that feels a little unexpected—just like the forest that inspired it.

Looking back, it's funny to think that a visit to an alpaca farm started everything.

Without Evergreen Alpacas, there probably wouldn't be Green Goat Ranch.

So in a way, this collection is a thank-you.

To the place that first showed me the magic of fiber.

To the forests that still inspire me every time I think about them.

And to the wonderful, woolly animals that continue to remind me that every fiber has its own story to tell.
